When Shaun Yantha says his Sobeys is family, he means it. The Seafood Manager has worked for Sobeys for nine years, and says it’s easy and fun to go to work every day because his coworkers are like a second family to him. “You might have small issues but if you take a week off, you feel like you’re behind on the gossip,” he joked. It was his caring attitude that helped him handle a diificult situation with a troubled co-worker going through a mental health crisis at work one weekend. As the manager on duty, Shaun calmed him down and got help, and he now has the man working in the seafood department with him one shift per week. “It’s good we have people to talk to,” he said. “We treat him like family because he is,” said Shaun. “Growing up, I spent a lot of time talking through hard times with my friends. My parents raised me to be kind and respectful to everyone.”
